Royal Highland Show is an annual event celebrating food, farming and rural life in Scotland, bringing together agricultural showcases, livestock competitions, hospitality, trade exhibitions and public entertainment at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh.
As one of Scotland’s largest and longest established outdoor events, the show attracts members of the agricultural industry, commercial exhibitors, sponsors and public audiences from across the country. Alongside the core agricultural programme, the event includes hospitality experiences, food and drink offerings, business networking and family focused visitor attractions across the wider site.
In 2017, during the demolition and redevelopment of the permanent Members Pavilion, the Royal Highland Centre required a fully operational temporary structure capable of maintaining the established member and hospitality experience throughout the show period. Positioned beside the main show ring, the temporary pavilion was designed to provide premium hospitality and guest facilities within a temporary event environment.
The structure incorporated dining areas, bars, catering facilities, sponsor spaces, viewing terraces and family facilities, supporting members, sponsors and invited guests throughout the event. The project combined large scale temporary infrastructure with hospitality focused design and operational planning, ensuring the temporary pavilion maintained the standards and functionality expected within one of Scotland’s best known live event environments.

Special Projects was appointed by Royal Highland Centre to manage the planning, coordination and delivery of the temporary Members Pavilion for the Royal Highland Show during the redevelopment of the permanent pavilion facility.
Our role included overseeing the project from early planning and design coordination through to installation, fit out, live event operations and deconstruction. Working on behalf of the Royal Highland Centre, we coordinated contractors, suppliers and specialist teams to deliver a fully operational hospitality environment capable of supporting members, sponsors and guests throughout the event period.
Special Projects managed infrastructure scheduling, procurement and on site coordination across all areas of the pavilion, including hospitality facilities, dining areas, kitchens, bars, sponsor spaces, viewing areas and family facilities. We also coordinated interior designers, marquee specialists, scaffolding contractors and production suppliers to ensure the temporary structure achieved the presentation, operational and hospitality standards expected within the Royal Highland Show environment.
Working within a restricted footprint and live event venue, our role focused on balancing operational functionality, guest experience and efficient use of space throughout the project. Through detailed coordination, supplier management and careful planning, Special Projects supported the delivery of a premium temporary hospitality facility aligned with the Royal Highland Centre brand and event requirements.
